Candidate Policies and Procedures Manual

1. Admission Policy

To be eligible for enrollment in the CCO Crane Operator Training Program, all candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be physically and medically qualified to operate cranes safely, as determined by a current DOT medical certificate or equivalent.

  • Demonstrate the ability to read and understand English at a functional level and perform basic arithmetic necessary for load chart calculations.

  • Agree to comply with CCO’s Substance Abuse Policy and Code of Ethics.

  • Provide valid photo identification and any required supporting documentation.

  • Meet all institution-specific enrollment requirements and deadlines.

2. Refund Policy

Cancellation Within 72 Hours

Applicants who cancel their enrollment within 72 hours (three business days) of signing an enrollment agreement are entitled to a full refund of all tuition and fees paid, provided no training has been attended, and no services have been rendered.

Denial or Fraudulent Enrollment

If admission or services are denied by the institution due to fraud, misrepresentation, or ineligibility, the candidate is entitled to a full refund of all monies paid.

Termination and Pro Rata Refunds

After training has begun, candidates who withdraw or are terminated may be eligible to receive a pro rata refund of tuition and fees based on the percentage of training completed as of the last date of attendance.
Refunds will be calculated according to the proportion of the program completed to the total program length.
All refunds will be processed within 30 calendar days of the candidate’s official termination date.

Determination of Termination Date

To officially withdraw, participants must submit a written notice to 750 Hwy 90, Irvington, AL, 36544 or via Email to Candidates@Southalcs.com.

Non-Refundable Fees

Registration, testing, and application fees (if applicable) may be designated as non-refundable, as stated in the Candidate Agreement.

Special Circumstances

In cases of documented medical emergency, military service, or other extenuating circumstances, the institution may offer additional consideration at its discretion.

3. Candidate Conduct and Academic Policies

Standards of Conduct

All candidates are expected to demonstrate professionalism, respect, and safety awareness throughout their training. Conduct must reflect the high standards required of certified crane operators. Candidates must:

  • Follow all safety rules and regulations at all times during indoor and field training.

  • Treat instructors, staff, and fellow candidates with courtesy and respect.

  • Maintain a drug- and alcohol-free environment in accordance with CCO’s Substance Abuse Policy.

  • Refrain from cheating, falsifying records, or engaging in academic dishonesty.

  • Avoid any disruptive or unsafe behavior that interferes with instruction or endangers others.

  • Use school equipment and property responsibly, following all instructor guidelines.

Failure to follow these standards may result in disciplinary action.

4. Disciplinary Actions

Depending on the nature and severity of the offense, disciplinary actions may include:

  1. Verbal Warning – for minor infractions or first offenses.

  2. Written Warning / Probation – for repeated or more serious violations.

  3. Suspension – temporary removal from training pending investigation or corrective action.

  4. Termination / Dismissal – permanent removal from the program for serious misconduct, unsafe behavior, or violation of safety, ethics, or substance abuse policies.

Candidates terminated for cause are not eligible for readmission unless approved by the Training Director.

5. Evaluation Policy

Performance is evaluated through the following methods:

  • Written assessments covering safety regulations, load charts, and operational theory.

  • Hands-on evaluations were conducted during crane operation exercises.

  • Attendance and participation in all required training sessions.

  • CCO written and practical exam results, as applicable.

Candidates must maintain satisfactory progress and meet all program standards to qualify for program completion and CCO certification testing.

6. Completion and Certification Requirements

To complete the CCO Crane Operator Training Program, candidates must:

  • Satisfactorily complete all required classroom and hands-on training hours.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in equipment operation and safety procedures.

  • Pass the institution’s internal written and practical assessments.

  • Successfully pass all required CCO written and practical examinations.

Upon completion, candidates will receive a Certificate of Completion from the training provider and, upon passing all CCO exams, will be awarded CCO Certification, valid for five (5) years.
